National Parks Project

Protecting natural areas in Canada is one of the most important things that we can do as Canadians. Ensuring that natural areas are not destroyed by new infrastructure or development help protect the species which these areas sustains and adds to the natural beauty of our landscape. There are so many neat initiatives which have been raised over the years which aid in protecting these great natural landscapes of Canada.

Being a huge fan of Canadian music I stumbled upon something which really struck my interest. National Parks Project is a film and music project which involves 13 film-makers, 39 musicians and 13 national parks to create a collection of original songs and a number of short documentary films. At each national park, filming of the musicians and the recording of the songs was done. With the purchase of this album, all of the profits go to the Natural Conservancy of Canada (NCC). The NCC is Canada’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped to protect more than 800,000 hectares coast to coast (www.natureconservancy.ca). This initiative is an amazing way to support the preservation of Canadian environment. The idea of having various Canadian artists is also a great concept. More outstanding ideas like this one need to begin and continue to spread to gain more support. It is so easy to ignore the fact that every year a vast amount of land in Canada is destroyed in order to make room for new development. Instead of just ignoring something like this people are actually taking action. Canadians are taking action. We need to work together in order to preserve, maintain and enjoy the beautiful landscape which Canada has to offer. We can’t sit idly by and let other people decide how much of our land is kept safe and natural and how much is destroyed for things like oil drilling or new developments.

I want to influence you to now go and purchase this album. Not just because it is an amazing album with an array of different sounds and excellent musicians, but because this is something so much bigger than music and short documentary clips. This is about Canadians working together to keep our country as beautiful as it has always been. Canadians who live their lives in all different ways, from musicians, students and filmmakers, to lawyers and politicians need to band together and support Canada’s vast and gorgeous environment. In buying this album you are supporting Canadian artists, Canadian national parks and supporting the idea of people working together to improve the conditions of our planet.

This video is just a sample of the amazing music featured on the National Parks Project album. This song is performed by Bry Webb, Jim Guthrie & Sarah Harmer and this video presents images taken from Gwaii Haanas National Park. Listen, enjoy, support.
