Alexandra Buffone: Hello everyone! I am an 18 year old first year student at the University of Guelph majoring in Sociology. Some of my hobbies include hockey, soccer and listening to music. I am interested in climate change because it is an issue that will affect our lives significantly in the future if we do not try to fix it today.

Hilary Worm: I am a 21 year old first year student studying in the Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Guelph with a major in Geography. After graduating from high school, I took three years off to travel to Central and South America and work in Toronto. My interests include travelling, reading, knitting, and many other things.

Joanna Rees: Hey Everyone! I am 18 years old and currently a first year student at the University of Guelph in the Bachelor of Arts and Science program. My two areas of focus are biology and international development. I’m interested in both the biological impacts of climate change along with the social and cultural impacts. I hope to become further educated on the Canadian government’s environmental actions and role in reducing carbon emissions. I enjoy Canada’s great outdoors and love participating in both winter and summer hobbies such as skiing, camping, hiking and sailing. As an individual who thoroughly enjoys the outdoors, I hope to learn more about the issues surrounding climate change, to help save the Canada we currently know and love. I look forward to sharing the knowledge I collect over the following semester with you.

Jocelyn Keeso: Hi everyone! I am 19 years old and in my first year at the University of Guelph, major to be determined. Some of my hobbys include basketball, baking and music.

Kayley Langdon: Hi! I’m in my first year of International Development at the University of Guelph. My interests include being outdoors, cooking, traveling and enjoying live music.

Melissa Zigler: Hello, my name is Melissa! I am a first year student at the University of Guelph studying Microbiology. I am a member of the Cool Heads for a Hot Planet: Canada and Climate Change First Year Seminar course. I am interested in climate change because it currently and will continue to effect everything and everyone globally. I am very interested in the effects of climate change on animals as I hope to attend veterinary college after completing my undergraduate degree. I hope you enjoy my blogs!

Michelle Grover: Hi everyone! I’m 19 years old and in my first year of studying Environmental Governance at the University of Guelph. I took this class because I think it’s important to be educated about the changes taking place in our environment and I believe that with the right information we can work towards reducing our impact. I hope you all enjoy this blog!

Morgan Dobroshinsky: Hi! My name is Morgan and I am a first year student at the University of Guelph studying Criminal Justice and Public Policy. Some of my interests are dancing, playing music, and reading a good book while cuddled up with my cat and a warm cup of tea. I am interested in climate change because it doesn’t just affect a small group of people, or a certain area of the world.. it is affecting everyone and everything globally; subtly in some places, and unfortunately, dramatically in others. I truly hope you enjoy my posts!

Shannon Regan: Hey guys!  I am an 18 year old first year student at the University of Guelph, currently majoring in English.  I enjoy fashion, reading, cooking and enjoying the great outdoors.  I share an interest in climate change and hope to someday make a difference to our environment.  Enjoy my blog posts!

Tyler White (aka Shalackma): So I am Shalackma. I am a University of Guelph Bio-Med student. I grew up believing that people polluted, or exploited others — and the environment — because they just did not know better. I have hope that this is still true, and maybe this blog will help to educate the people who have not yet had a chance to reflect on what their actions may affect. Even though I am starting to believe that the average person is not ignorant as I first suspected… but maybe feels powerless, or too small to affect change, which is something I would rather believe than believe that the average person is aware of the environmental problems and is apathetic, or worse, ignoring the problems. I enjoy winter, or at least I enjoy 95% of everything that comes with winter. There is something about breathing cold crisp air that I LOVE. As well, most of the sports I engage in are winter based sports. One of my favourite quotes is “be the change you want to see in the world” (Gandhi). But I also like “get to the choppa” (Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer). One of my most memorable learning experiences was when I learnt that the stove was hot. One of my future goals is to turn into a pumpkin pie.

Vanita Buchoon: Hi, my name is Vanita and I am a first year student at the University of Guelph studying in the Bachelor of Arts program. I graduated high school thinking I wanted to major in criminology, but I now have no idea and I am as confused as ever. I am interested in climate change in general, what is going on, how we can spread the word, what we can do to help, and if by doing these things we will make a significant positive impact on the environment at all. I hope you enjoy my blog posts and continue to follow along with the Cool Heads for a Hot Planet site!
